Help Clearwater Win the Title “Best Tennis Town”

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The City of Clearwater is one of ten finalists in USTA’s “Best Tennis Town” nationwide competition. The city submitted an in-depth application and produced a video about Clearwater’s first class tennis programs and facilities. Now Tampa Bay can help Clearwater win “Best Tennis Town” by voting.

To vote, log onto www.besttennistown.com. Voting ends at 11:59 a.m. ET on Monday, July 26, 2010. Only one vote per valid e-mail address is allowed. The names of the finalists and their videos are available to view on the site. The grand prize is $100,000. The second and third place prize winners will receive $50,000 and $25,000, respectively, to be used for communitywide tennis programming and/or facility enhancements.

“When I became Mayor of Clearwater, one of my first initiatives was to make Clearwater a healthy place to live, ensuring a healthy environment and healthy residents,” said Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard. “One of the best ways to keep active is on Clearwater’s tennis courts. We hope everyone will vote to help Clearwater win the Best Tennis Town competition.”

Clearwater has 95 tennis facilities and courts including 40 satellite courts in city parks. Henry L. McMullen Tennis Complex has seven hard courts and eight clay courts. The Boys and Girls Club has two courts in addition to tennis courts at schools, commercial and private clubs. For more information about Clearwater’s tennis programs, log onto www.myclearwater.com.
